With the strong focus on the functioning of bird brains, animal experiments are indispensable for the SFB 1280, and all researchers are equally aware of their great responsibility. Every planned experiment is preceded by careful ethical consideration and evaluation in order to keep the potential suffering of the animals as low as possible. We are therefore pleased that the RUB is one of the first signatories of the “Transparente Tiervesuche” initiative, in order to provide further education and transparency on this controversial topic.
