Prof. Dr. Harald H. Quick (Project Leader A05, F02) conducts research on new methods and technical solutions for ultra-high-field MRI (UHF-MRI) and, in particular, develops new hardware and radiofrequency coils for 7-tesla magnetic resonance imaging. These developments have expanded the range of applications for 7-Tesla MRI at the Erwin L. Hahn Institute, making it possible today to examine body regions that were not previously the focus of UHF MRI.
A major milestone in his career was his involvement in the development of the world’s first integrated PET/MR hybrid system to be approved for clinical use. Looking ahead, Quick expects that UHF MRI systems will increasingly rival clinical MRI systems thanks to new multichannel radiofrequency coils, offering particular advantages in applications where high spatial resolution and excellent soft-tissue contrast are required.
As executive director of the Erwin L. Hahn Institute, Quick combines technical development with the application of UHF MRI in medical research. In doing so, he works closely with other researchers, including those at the German Cancer Research Center, to further expand the capabilities of 7-Tesla MRI.
