We would like to congratulate Dr. Stephan Leisengang (University Hospital Essen) and are pleased to announce that he was awarded first place in the 2022 Animal Welfare Award on January 8.
The award is given to projects that help reduce the number of animals used, minimize the distress experienced by animals in experiments, or replace animal testing (the 3Rs principle: Reduction, Refinement, Replacement).
Stephan Leisengang was honored for his outstanding work on primary neuroglial cell cultures of the pain system as a complementary method for reducing the number of animals used and minimizing the distress of laboratory animals in pain research, in accordance with the 3R principle.
Stephan Leisengang is an important dialogue partner for us in SFB 1280, where we are also very keen on establishing and inventing 3R measures. We send our best wishes and congratulations to Stephan!
