On September 16, 2026, the world of neuroscience once again took center stage at Ruhr University Bochum: At BRAIN DAY, visitors gained insights into current research and had the opportunity to get involved through lectures, informational sessions, and hands-on activities. At the event center, patients, researchers, doctors, and interested guests engaged in conversation with one another.
Under the theme “From Basic Research to Therapy,” various topics in Bochum’s neuroscience community were presented. Among other things, visitors learned how the brain activates the body’s own “pharmacy,” just how capable crows are, and the importance of social touch for health. Interactive stations also allowed visitors to experience neuroscientific research firsthand.
The Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1280 “Extinction Learning” was also represented as a partner of BRAIN DAY. The scientists presented their research on learning, forgetting, and remembering and, in a miniature museum as well as at interactive stations, demonstrated how they work and what insights they have gained over approximately ten years of collaborative research.
BRAIN DAY has been organized by Bochum-based neuroscientists since 2011 and serves as a forum for exchange between the scientific community and the public. In 2026, the event was hosted by the International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN), the Science Hub Neuroscience, and SFB 1280.
