In many industrial companies, processes are automated. If they are disrupted, it is important that employees have their skills quickly at hand.

Automation normally makes everyday work easier for employees in industry. However, when the system is disrupted, it is important that they have their rarely used skills quickly at hand. A team led by Marina Klostermann has been investigating how to keep knowledge and skills learned long ago and rarely used from getting rusty. Together with the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training, the work, organizational and business psychologists from the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), under the direction of Prof. Dr. Annette Kluge, evaluated 58 studies. They derived tips for initial learning and for refresher courses. Their work is published in the journal “Safety” on March 28, 2022.
